HCT Unit

In HANDEF, we conduct free HIV/AIDS Counseling and Testing not only for Persons With Disabilities (PWD) but for as many people that wish to be tested.

HANDEF has consistently been engaged in building the capacity of the challenged persons in the state in reproductive health, HIV/AIDS and life building skills through various workshops. In 2005 for example, 550 people were so trained.

Also in the same year, HANDEF organised a workshop to sensitize people living with disabilities against the scourge of HIV/AIDS and has remained the only NGO to do so.  We have so far trained 155 pear health Educators from the 3 special schools to date while 100 parents of children living with disabilities were trained on developing positive attitude towards their children. In 2008, 30 participants drawn from four tertiary institutions within Akure were also trained in HIV counseling and testing.
